Braves ink Charlie Morton to one year deal

This is the second pitcher to sign a one-year multi-million dollar deal. This time bringing Charlie Morton home to Atlanta, the deal was reportedly worth $15m. He was a 3rd round draft back in 2002. He made his major league debut with the Braves just six years later in 2008. He was part of the Nate McClouth trade to the Pirates during the 2009 season. It’s come full circle for Charlie Morton.

Morton suffered some shoulder problems that set him back a bit in 2020, but he came back and pitched well into the playoffs.

Last season it was working on the bullpen, this season AA is working on the rotation and so far so good. So right now the rotation looks like this: Max Fried, Mike Soroka, Ian Anderson, Charlie Morton, Drew Smyly. This looks like a solid rotation for me, now the question marks could be Soroka, Morton and Smyly.

Soroka because he’s returning from Achilles injury, though he’s starting to throw from flat ground. Which is a good sight to see.

We here at Backdoor Slider welcome Charlie Morton to the Braves!
